Student Platform for Engineering Education Development (SPEED)

Student Platform for Engineering Education (SPEED) is a global, non-profit student organization that functions as an interdisciplinary network of engineering students, who aspire to provide opinion and create an impact on future development of engineering education and its effect on society and environment. We look to inspire the actions and development of globally minded, engineering student leaders intended on helping engineering education evolve. As a member society of the International Federation of Engineering Education Societies (IFEES), we strive to provide important student ideas and perspectives to the international engineering education community.

Collaboration with IUCEE

Indo US Collaboration for Engineering Education (IUCEE) program was conceptualized by over 150 leaders of engineering education and businesses from US and India in 2007 to help create good quality engineering talent in order to find solutions to the global challenges facing humanity such as energy, environment, health and communications .SPEED-India collaborated with IUCEE in 2013 and is more enthusiastic to pursue the path for improving the quality of engineering education in India.

Regional Forums

Engineering students who are willing for the betterment of engineering education in India are reached out through regional workshops in previous years. India, being a diverse country, needed 5 workshops to be conducted in 2013 (in Delhi, Hubli, Hyderabad, Pune and Rajkot), from which student leaders were identified. The theme for the workshop was ‘Creativity and Innovation in Engineering Education’. The students are taught about making and implementing Action plans systematically and then are asked to take up a problem pertaining to the theme of the workshop and to work upon it. Various stages of Poster presentation, Prototyping and Project presentation will be a part of the workshop.

Indian Student Forum (ISF)

Indian Student Forum is a national conference organized by SPEED aimed to draw academics, representatives from government, industry and non-profit organizations, and increasingly students from around the Indian subcontinent to discuss issues pertaining to engineering education. Through this 3-day event, students will be a part of a national experience, submerged in an atmosphere of cross-cultural communication and creative thinking. Participants will take part in workshops aimed at providing them with tools to find innovative solutions with a global perspective and apply them in their local communities to improve engineering education. They will get a chance to learn about existing student projects, get involved and/or start their own regional and global initiatives with the aim of maximizing the student voice within the engineering education community

ISF-2014 that took place in Hubli in January, 2014, saw participants from all across the country who took part with enthusiasm to make better use of the engineering knowledge they had acquired over time. ISF -2015 took place at Bangalore in January,2015 highlighted the importance of having an action plan for education that included aspects such as a theme, objectives, tasks, responsibilities, timeline and evaluation. Facilitators from International stage came down to ISF-2014 & ISF – 2015 for guiding the participants in creating better Action plans.
