National Service Scheme (NSS)

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a Central Sector Scheme of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. It provides opportunity to the student youth of 11th & 12th Class of schools at +2 Board level and student youth of Technical Institution, Graduate & Post Graduate at colleges and University level of India to take part in various government led community service activities & programmes. The sole aim of the NSS is to provide hands on experience to young students in delivering community service. Since inception of the NSS in the year 1969, the number of student’s strength increased from 40,000 to over 3.8 million up to the end of March 2018 students in various universities, colleges and Institutions of higher learning have volunteered to take part in various community service programmes.

Objectives

  1. Understand the community in which they work
  2. Understand themselves in relation to their community
  3. Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving
  4. Develop among themselves a sense of social and civic responsibility
  5. Utilise their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems
  6. Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities
  7. Gain skills in mobilising community participation
  8. Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes
  9. Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters
  10. Practice national integration and social harmony

NSS in Anurag

National Service Scheme (NSS), a social service activity reflects the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service. It helps the student to grow individually and makes the student confident by developing their leadership skills and gain knowledge about different people from different walks of life. At Anurag, NSS has been initiated with one unit in the year 2002 and now it has grown up to three units giving opportunities to more than 800 students to participate in community service and raise their social consciousness.

  1. 7 Days Village Camps in all adopted villages: Better Understanding the community problems and working on those problems using their subject knowledge.
  2. Volunteers get all round personality development in village camps by observing the community.
  3. Adult Education Programmes for Villagers
  4. Awareness Programmes: Health & Hygiene , Govt. Schemes, Swachhatha, Clean & Green. Environment Protection
  5. Free Vocational Programmes for unemployed youth in villages

Main Programs in Govt.Schools

  1. Regular visits to adopted govt.schools to understand the school problems
  2. Helping the school children in keeping school clean and green as a part of swachh bharat programme
  3. Taking subject classes for school children in which subjects they are lacking
  4. Taking spoken english, basic math and computer classes for students
  5. Establish a computer lab with the contribution of university management and make them learn all the school students and teachers by providing computer teachers, students as a part of digital literacy.
  6. Conducting some competitions, motivational and yoga classes.
  7. Free notebook distribution programme to all adopted schools.
